Firstly, I would like to say that this historical social blog is not being written for any financial gain or reward.
Secondly, eventually there will be various articles added as and when, not chronologically but hopefully on a regular basis.
Well I managed to stick to my word , mostly for the first 10 months, but, although it was going great until May 2021, life became too busy to keep up the pace of writing regularly.
But that does not mean you cannot contact me as I am still going to write more, when I have the time !
I have in the main, restricted myself to Policing between the birth of the Dorset County Constabulary in October 1856 and October 1967 when Bournemouth Borough amalgamated, however I will be padding it out at times with earlier and possibly later information.
What I will hopefully achieve, will be an informative account of everything that happened over the years of the ‘Dorset Constabulary’ which will be helpful and give good educational content about all those officers that served the great county of Dorset.
My aim initially was to try and identify all the officers in the photographs that I had inherited. This was not as easy a task as I thought, as I quickly realised records were scarce. Now I would like to share all the information I inherited or have uncovered so you and others may gain from my research. My grandfather was the inspiration to carry out the research, so this site is dedicated to him and my other family members that served the county.
I do not profess to being an expert on the Dorset Constabulary, I just feel what I have, should be shared and embraced and I am in a position to pass on what I have inherited and followed up on.
Everything I have written and publish, I believe is correct and if there are any mistakes then please tell me. Much of my information has come from all those on my “WITH THANKS” list, but I would be very happy if you can contribute and be a “helper” and add anything. This would include memoirs or stories passed down, especially if your ancestors were part of the Constabulary. Basically anything that can improve or enhance the site would be appreciated.
